4. On March 13, 1948, the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team won their second NCAA championship. The Wildcats defeated the Baylor Bears 58-42 in the final game played at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This was the first NCAA championship for legendary Kentucky coach Adolph Rupp.

5. In 2003, a powerful tornado struck parts of Kentucky on March 13, causing significant damage and claiming 24 lives.
