4. On May 9, 1958, astronaut Charles Duke was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. Duke would later become the 10th man to walk on the moon during the Apollo 16 mission in April 1972.

5. In 2000, the USS Yorktown, a retired World War II-era aircraft carrier, was opened as a museum ship in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. Today, the USS Yorktown is a popular tourist attraction and educational resource, attracting over 150,000 visitors annually.
