2. In 1904, the first airplane flight in Kansas was made by aviator Tom Benoist. The flight took place in the city of Topeka and lasted for just a few seconds, but it marked the beginning of an era of aviation in the state.

3. In 1938, the Great Plains snowstorm hit Kansas and several other states, causing a massive blackout in the region. The storm lasted for three days and caused significant damage to infrastructure and crops.

4. In 1951, the state of Kansas abolished the death penalty for a brief time, becoming the first US state to do so in more than two decades. The ban was lifted in 1994, and the state has since executed several convicted criminals.

5. In 2016, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos in a thrilling game that ended in overtime. The victory helped the Chiefs secure a playoff spot and was also notable for being the team's first win in Denver in six years.
