1. On November 26, 1832, the Choctaw Nation signed the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek in Mississippi, relinquishing their remaining lands in the state and agreeing to move to Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) in exchange for financial compensation and other benefits.

2. A major Civil War battle took place on November 26, 1863, at the nearby town of Coffeeville, Mississippi. Confederate forces under Generals Nathan Bedford Forrest and Samuel Jameson clashed with Union troops led by Colonel Benjamin Grierson, resulting in a Union victory.

3. In 1941, Mississippi State College (now Mississippi State University) defeated the University of Mississippi in the annual Egg Bowl football game on November 26, by a score of 14-0. The rivalry between the two schools remains intense to this day.

4. On November 26, 1963, just three days after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, civil rights leader Medgar Evers delivered a speech at Jackson State College (now Jackson State University) in which he emphasized the need for voting rights and racial equality in Mississippi.

5. Mississippi's first female governor, Evelyn Gandy, was inaugurated on November 26, 1979, becoming the highest-ranking woman in state government up to that time. Gandy had previously served as lieutenant governor and attorney general, and was a strong advocate for women's rights and equal opportunity.
