4. The Wilmington Race Riot of 1903 broke out on September 10 after false rumors that a black man had assaulted a white woman. The violence resulted in the deaths of at least three people and the destruction of several homes and businesses.

On September 10, 1977, the Wilmington Riverfront Development Corporation was established, marking the beginning of a major effort to revitalize the city's waterfront and create a hub for business, entertainment, and tourism. Today, the Riverfront is home to a variety of attractions, including a convention center, sports stadium, and dining and shopping venues.
