1. In 1953, the first nuclear reactor in Indiana was opened at Purdue University. Known as the Purdue University Reactor Number One (PUR-1), it was the first of its kind to be housed in a university.

2. On September 19, 1864, Hoosier soldiers fought in the Battle of Winchester during the American Civil War. The Union forces, led by General Philip Sheridan, were victorious over the Confederate army.

3. In 1927, the Indiana Theater opened in Indianapolis. With a seating capacity of over 3,000, it was one of the largest movie theaters in the world at the time.

4. On September 19, 1929, the first balloon race from Indianapolis took place. Ten balloons participated in the event, which was won by the team of Harold Gatty and Wiley Post.

5. The first recorded game of basketball played in Indiana took place on September 19, 1893. The game was played at Crawfordsville High School, and featured teams from the school and the local YMCA.
